CM meets boy rescued from borewell, announces compensation

CM appeals to citizens to report uncovered borewells
CM made a deposit of 2 lakh, in the name of the child
The Chief Minister met with the team who rescued Chandrashekar, the 2-year old boy who had fallen into a nearby borewell in Ummadivaram in Vinukonda Mandal, Guntur. He instructed the officials to prepare a case study and document the strategy, for future reference.
He asked them to spread awareness to the public, and insist that they report any uncovered borewells to the concerned authorities. “People should click the photos of such borewells on their smartphones, and send it to their local authorities”, he said.
He also made a payment of ₹2 lakh in the name of the child, which will increase to ₹20 lakh once the child completes 20 years.
The team comprised of officials from different departments and reported how the rescue operation was conducted.
After there were direct instructions from the Chief Minister to use all the resources and save the child, the state administration immediately alerted all the departments concerned. The Health Department, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), District Collector’s office, Panchayat Raj, District Fire Officer, the Superintendent of Police and other emergency-related services, all joined the efforts and acted in a quick and agile manner to save the child.
They arranged a life-supporting system, prepared the traffic plan, mobilized JCBs and started excavation adjacent to the borewell.
The DC and SP strategized ways to overcome the rocky structured soil and reduce the impact of rainfall. They dug a lateral burrow, and reached the child from the bottom, to prevent the child from further sinking. Sufficient diesel and oxygen cylinders were kept handy, night plans were made anticipating a prolonged operation and the child was kept engaged with the help of conversation and music. The NDRF provided borewell-specific and victim-locating cameras.
