Need Your Help For Kshiti’s Medical Condition
Kshiti Karthikeyan, 18 Months old baby was diagnosed with a rare, genetic, mitochondrial disorder called Leigh’s disease.
Leigh’s is a rare and severely progressive Neurodegenerative condition, that as of today has no cure and offers an extremely grim prognosis, particularly if the onset is in the early years of life (infancy). Due to defective / mutated genes, mitochondria which are the power houses for our cells fail to function normally, and over a period of time the lack of energy production, eventually leads to cell death. The disease results in a progressive loss of mental and movement abilities (psychomotor regression), eventually leading to vision, cardiac, renal and respiratory complications, typically resulting in death in a couple of years.
We have initiated a support page, as we realize the world of rare disorders is an extremely difficult one – both financially and emotionally, with very poor funding and research. Mitochondrial diseases being as rare and fatal as they are, need improved awareness and increased research funding, so the many children fighting these rare, deadly diseases stand a better chance, at being hopeful for a cure in the not too distant future.
NATS is working with Kshithi’s Parents to raise the funds for the cause which will equip Kshithi’s parents to fight this battle harder and longer.
