ASCI Achieves Record 99.7% Voluntary Compliance in Q1 FY2026-27
The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) has achieved its highest-ever voluntary compliance rate of 99.7% in the first quarter of FY2026-27. This milestone marks a significant improvement from previous years, with voluntary compliance rates recorded at 86% in FY2025-26 and 83% in FY2024-25.
Scope of Operations:
During Q1 FY2026-27, ASCI handled a substantial volume of complaints to maintain advertising standards:
Case Volume: 1,616 cases were processed, involving 1,089 advertisements across various sectors.
Influencer Oversight: Among the processed advertisements, 179 were related to influencer marketing, highlighting ASCI’s focus on the digital advertising landscape.
A Shift in Digital Advertising Culture:
Historically, digital advertising has been difficult to regulate due to its “speed first, compliance-later” culture. The near-perfect compliance rate in Q1 demonstrates a meaningful shift, achieving near-parity between digital advertising compliance and traditional media like print and TV, which previously maintained higher compliance levels (97% in FY2025-26).
This trend suggests that both large and emerging advertisers, as well as influencers, are prioritizing transparent and responsible communication.
Industry Commitment to Consumer Trust:
Manisha Kapoor, CEO and Secretary General of ASCI, attributed this success to a collaborative effort among advertisers, agencies, influencers, platforms, and regulators. She emphasized that the industry increasingly recognizes consumer trust as a business imperative rather than just a regulatory requirement. The effectiveness of this self-regulatory model is further supported by the Consumer Complaints Council (CCC), which includes a majority of civil society members and technical experts dedicated to protecting consumer interests.
