Samajwadi Party Begins Preparation for Assembly Elections Ahead of Time
There is still time for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Nevertheless, the Samajwadi Party (SP), led by Akhilesh Yadav, is gearing up for the elections well in advance. To expand its voter base, the party has launched campaign activities right from the booth level and alerted its ground-level workers. As part of this strategy, party leaders have instructed booth-level workers to enroll a minimum of five new voters at every polling booth.
Uttar Pradesh has approximately 177,000 polling booths. Targeting five new voters per booth would add nearly 900,000 additional voters to the party’s campaign list. Akhilesh Yadav aims to strengthen the party at the grassroots level through this initiative.
According to internal party estimates, a newly enrolled voter can influence other members within their family. Since an average family consists of five members, enrolling five voters per booth creates the potential to bring around 25 people into the party’s fold.
Party sources noted that while each booth in-charge was requested to add at least five new voters, many are registering even more.
Booth-level workers will go door-to-door to inform voters about the welfare programs implemented during the SP government’s tenure and to highlight the failures of the BJP. Sources stated that workers are actively explaining SP’s past initiatives while focusing on key issues such as exam paper leaks and the alleged misuse of donations collected for the Ram Mandir construction—factors they believe will work against the BJP.
Surveys by Youth Associations…
The SP has already conducted internal surveys across all constituencies. Various agencies and youth associations are conducting surveys to assess booth-wise and caste-wise voting patterns, as well as to identify potential winning candidates. In meetings with party workers at the headquarters, Akhilesh Yadav has repeatedly emphasized the importance of booth management, voter list verification, and the appointment of reliable Booth Level Agents (BLAs).
This strategy comes as the Samajwadi Party seeks to capitalize on its performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections for the upcoming assembly polls. In the 2022 Assembly elections, the BJP won 255 seats with a 41.29% vote share, while the SP secured 111 seats with a 32.06% vote share. Meanwhile, the BJP has dismissed the SP’s ‘five new voters’ strategy for the 2027 elections, stating it will have little impact. BJP leaders claimed they already possess an extensive organizational booth-level network across Uttar Pradesh and accused the SP of attempting to imitate their model.
