Massive Inflow into PM CARES Fund.. Fund Reaches ₹8,452 Crore
The PM CARES Fund has reached a new record high. By the end of the 2024–25 financial year, the total value of this fund grew to ₹8,452.07 crore. Recent audit reports clarify that this growth was registered due to changes brought in investment strategies. Most of the funds are in the form of FDs.
The fund, which stood at ₹7,173.03 crore at the beginning of this financial year, increased significantly by the end of the year. Previously, a major portion of the funds remained in savings accounts, but they have now been shifted to fixed deposits for better returns. Currently, out of the total funds, ₹6,641 crore is in fixed deposits, while only ₹605.41 crore is in savings accounts. This means nearly 92.8 percent of total PM CARES funds are in FDs.
Over the past year, ₹469.38 crore was received as interest from fixed deposits, whereas only ₹5.77 crore came from savings accounts. Alongside these, ₹479.04 crore was received through domestic donations and ₹92.83 lakh through foreign donations. Another ₹324.66 crore was added to this account as refunds from various agencies.
During the COVID-19 period, the Central Government established a public charitable trust named “PM CARES Fund” specifically on March 27. It was created to deal with emergency situations like COVID-19 and to assist victims. Under this, a special corpus fund of ₹10 lakh is deposited in banks in the name of children who lost their parents during COVID-19. Once they turn 18, a monthly stipend is paid from this ₹10 lakh. After they reach 23 years of age, the entire amount is paid to them at once.
