Nellore resonates with Annamacharya sankeertanas

Annamacharya Jayantyutsava Committee and Srivani held a treat for music and dance lovers with Bhuman’s exposition.
A music and dance concert marking the 614th birth anniversary of Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya was conducted on Saturday evening at PVR Klayana Mandapam in Nellore, under the collaborative patronage of Nellore Annamacharya Jayantyutsava Committee and Srivani (Sri City’s Spiritual & Literary Forum). Mr. Bhuman (Sri Subrahmanyam Reddy), former Director of SVETA, TTD, Mr. Saraswati Prasad of TTD Annamacharya Project, and a team of dancers from Gurukrupa Kalakshetra, Nellore exhibited their talents in the two and half hour long well orchestrated programme.
Welcoming the audience Mr. Tunga Siva Prabhata Reddy, who was the convenor of the event said that the well-choreographed programme titled ‘Annamaiya Sankeerthanavali’ was created in a very unique style, amalgamating talk, song and dance. He thanked Dr. Ravindra Sannareddy, Founder Managing Director for cosponsoring the programme through Srivani Forum.
Mr. Bhuman in his superb exposition of saint poet Tallapaka Annamacharya’s typical style of writing said that Annamayya wrote over 32,000 sankeertanas in praise of Lord Venkatewara. Annamayya opened the path for egalitarian society by preaching equality and opposing to discrimination and other social ills that were prevalent in the community at that time, Mr. Bhuman noted.
Following Mr. Bhuman’s interpretation on a particular sankeertana, Mr. Saraswati Prasad, supported by Mr. P. Panduranga Rao, Mr. Sankar and Mr. Suresh on percussion instruments, melodiously sang it and the young girls performed graceful dance simultaneously. Altogether, nine popular sankeertanas were chosen, including Brahmam okkate, Chakkani talliki, AdigO Alladigo, and Chnni sisuvu.
Before the commencement of the programme Mr. Sannareddy Rajagopala Reddy, Mr. Bhuman and others lighted the auspicious lamp. The organisers felicitated all the participants of the musical & dance programme. Anna prasadams were offered to all after the programme.
