Vasan Eye Care Launches ‘Safe Eyes, Safe Deepavali’ CSR Initiative to Support Children with Firecracker Eye Injuries
Vasan Eye Care, a part of ASG Hospital Limited, has launched its festive CSR initiative, ‘Safe Eyes, Safe Deepavali’, dedicated to treating children under 15 years of age who suffer firecracker-related eye injuries. Running from November 4, 2026, to November 14, 2026, across more than 200 Vasan Eye Care and ASG Eye Hospital centers in 95+ cities, the initiative provides comprehensive medical assistance including first aid, emergency eye care, pharmacy support, and necessary surgical interventions. Families seeking immediate guidance can contact the dedicated helpline at 1800 5713 333 to locate their nearest participating center.
Clinical Necessity and Prevention Guidelines:
During Deepavali last year, over 500 children received medical treatment for cracker-induced eye trauma across Vasan & ASG centers. Injuries to the cornea and anterior segment of the eye are frequent, and rapid medical intervention within the initial hours post-injury is vital to prevent permanent vision impairment. Vasan Eye Care and ASG Eye Hospital advise parents and guardians to adhere to key safety protocols:
Maintain Distance & Wear Protection: Light fireworks at arm’s length using long incense sticks and ensure children and adults wear protective glasses.
Adult Supervision: Ensure children handle fireworks strictly under adult observation, avoiding leaning over unexploded crackers or re-igniting failed fireworks.
Emergency Eye Care Protocol: In the event of an injury, avoid rubbing the eye, applying water jets, kajal, or unprescribed home remedies. Cover the eye lightly with a protective shield (such as a paper cup base) without pressure and seek immediate specialized care.
Leadership Perspectives:
Dr. Arun Singhvi, MD & CEO, ASG Hospital Limited: “Deepavali is a festival for which children wait all year, and a few seconds near a firecracker should not cost a child their eyesight. Most of these injuries can be prevented with simple precautions and close adult supervision. If an injury does happen, time is critical and the child should quickly be brought to an eye specialist. Through ‘Safe Eyes, Safe Deepavali’, we want to help families celebrate safely and make sure an injured child gets specialist care without delay.”
Dr. K Kamal Babu, COO (South), ASG Hospital Limited & Vasan Eye Care: “Across South India, Deepavali is celebrated with early-morning prayers, oil lamps and crackers, and children are always the most excited. A little care at that moment can protect a child’s eyesight for life. We request parents to supervise children closely and, if an injury occurs, to call our helpline and reach the nearest Vasan Eye Care centre, or any nearby eye care clinic or centre, without delay.”
