United States Senate Youth Program Opens Applications for Student Leaders
Applications are now officially open for the prestigious United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP), offering exceptional high school student leaders a $12,500 undergraduate college scholarship alongside an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C.
Established by Senate Resolution in 1962, the annual leadership initiative gives high school juniors and seniors an in-depth, firsthand view of federal governance and the legislative process. The deadline for students to apply is October 4.
Program Overview and Eligibility
To qualify, students must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents enrolled as high school juniors or seniors with strong academic standing. Applicants must also serve in an elected or appointed leadership capacity representing a constituency—such as student body president, class officer, student council representative, or a civic organization leader—for the entire 2026–2027 academic year.
Washington Week and Scholarship Benefits
Selected delegates representing each state, the District of Columbia, and the Department of Defense Education Activity will experience an immersive week in the nation’s capital. Program activities include:
- High-level briefings with U.S. Senators, Cabinet members, and federal agency directors
- Scheduled meetings with federal officials and judicial leaders
- Networking opportunities with top student leaders nationwide
All expenses—including round-trip transportation, hotel accommodations, meals, and professional military chaperones—are fully covered by The Hearst Foundations. Additionally, every chosen delegate receives a $12,500 college scholarship for undergraduate studies at any accredited U.S. institution.
Eligible students can review the full application guidelines and submit their materials ahead of the October 4 deadline.
