Sri City Marks World Environment Day with mass Plantation Drive
Sri City, June 5, 2026: Sri City celebrated World Environment Day 2026 on Friday with a large-scale sapling plantation drive across the integrated business city, reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability and climate action. The event was organised in line with the global theme, “Climate Change,” highlighting Sri City’s holistic efforts towards ecosystem restoration, adoption of clean energy, and promotion of responsible industrial practices, in harmony with the global campaign spearheaded by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The highlight of the observance was a large plantation drive held near SoluM India Hightech Pvt. Ltd., further strengthening Sri City’s image as a progressive and environmentally responsible industrial hub. Mr. N. Nageswara Raju, Member, Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB), graced the occasion as Chief Guest. He was joined by Smt. H.D. Varalaxmi, Regional Director, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and a host of officials from CPCB and APPCB. The dignitaries were received by Mr. D.N. Reddy, In-charge, Horticulture & Landscaping Division, Sri City. Marking the occasion, the guests planted saplings and encouraged continued efforts towards environmental conservation and sustainable development.
Mr. Trinadha Reddy, Forest Range Officer, Satyavedu, attended the event as Guest of Honour along with his staff and marked the occasion by planting a sapling.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. N. Nageswara Raju said, “World Environment Day reminds us of our collective responsibility to combat climate change and protect the future of our planet. Sri City’s plantation initiatives and environmental programmes demonstrate how industry and community can collaborate effectively to restore ecological balance. Every tree planted today contributes to a greener, healthier, and more climate-resilient tomorrow.”
In his message, Sri City Managing Director Dr. Ravindra Sannareddy said, “Climate change is the defining challenge of our time, and Sri City is responding with action. From large‑scale plantation drives to renewable energy adoption and water conservation, every initiative reflects our resolve to build an industrial ecosystem that safeguards the planet. By greening our spaces and reducing our footprint, we are proving that responsible growth can be climate‑positive.”
Showcasing Sri City’s green milestones, Mr. D.N. Reddy highlighted that the township has crossed the one‑million mark in saplings planted, with ten thousands more added this year as part of a plan to introduce 40 native species. He explained that, in recognition of its ecological merits, Sri City has adopted the Japanese Miyawaki method of afforestation, now in its seventh phase. Unlike conventional planting techniques, this approach enables a higher density of trees in limited spaces, accelerating the creation of thriving green ecosystems.
Reinforcing Sri City’s steadfast commitment to building a sustainable industrial ecosystem through green infrastructure, biodiversity conservation, resource efficiency, and active community engagement, World Environment Day was observed across multiple units on campus. Companies including Blue Star, Panasonic, Healthium Medtech, Kimberly Clark, Sundram Fasteners, Knauf, and several others joined the celebrations, with employees enthusiastically participating in the planting of saplings and other green initiatives.
