Gokula Education Foundation Medical Unveils RISM as a Future Ready University Revolutionizing STEM and Management Education
BENGALURU: In a landmark development for the Indian higher education landscape, the Gokula Education Foundation (Medical) the powerhouse behind the Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences and Ramaiah Medical College has announced the launch of the Ramaiah Institute of Science and Management (RISM). Established as a deemed-to-be university in Bengaluru, RISM is the result of a strategic knowledge partnership with the University at Albany, State University of New York (SUNY).
The institution is designed to bridge the widening gap between traditional academia and the frantic pace of global industry, focusing on high-growth sectors such as Artificial Intelligence, Aerospace Engineering, and Next-Gen Management.
A Visionary Academic Framework:
Set to welcome its inaugural cohort in August 2026, RISM breaks away from siloed learning. Building on the Ramaiah Group’s six-decade legacy, the university will offer a suite of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. Initial offerings include:
B.Tech in Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence, Aerospace Engineering, and Electrical Sciences.
BBA and MBA programs with a focus on tech-entrepreneurship and global strategy.
The curriculum is co-created with industry leaders to ensure “Relevance” is baked into the foundation. A standout feature is the introduction of ‘Mentor Professors’ and ‘Professors of Practice’ senior industry executives who will hold formal faculty roles to provide students with direct insights into real-world professional environments.
The Three Pillars: Technology, Aerospace, and Business
RISM’s academic structure is divided into specialized schools, each operating within a globally connected ecosystem:
School of Computer Science and AI: Focuses on machine learning, automation, and human-robot interaction.
School of Aerospace Engineering: Covers the full spectrum of flight systems, from satellite technologies to deep-space exploration.
School of Business: Emphasizes analytical and strategic management through on-campus industry-sponsored learning centers.
Strategic Location and Global Connectivity:
The university’s main residential campus is currently under development in Bengaluru’s Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) near Devanahalli. This location places students in the heart of India’s innovation hub, neighboring the Aerospace Park, Global Financial District, and the upcoming Foxconn facility.
While the main campus is expected to be fully operational by September 2027, academic sessions will begin at a transit campus in Yelahanka in 2026.
Leadership Perspectives:
Mr. Gurucharan Gollerkeri, Executive Director and Chief Strategy Officer of the Gokula Education Foundation (Medical), emphasized the need for agility.
“Traditional models are no longer sufficient. With RISM, we are building an ecosystem that mirrors how the real world functions. Our focus is on core knowledge and learning agility, equipping students for an unpredictable future.”
Havidán Rodríguez, President of the University at Albany, added:
“By harnessing our collective expertise, RISM and UAlbany will advance education in critical areas like nanotechnology and engineering. This partnership is essential to educating engaged global citizens.”
A Holistic Residential Experience:
RISM will follow a fully residential model, ensuring that student development extends beyond the classroom. The campus environment will integrate structured sports, wellness initiatives, leadership development, and entrepreneurship support, creating a comprehensive learning ecosystem designed for the leaders of tomorrow.
About the Organizations:
RISM: A greenfield institution focused on globally benchmarked STEM and Management education in partnership with SUNY Albany.
Gokula Education Foundation (Medical): Founded by Dr. M.S. Ramaiah in 1962, the foundation manages a vast network of premier educational and healthcare institutions, including the JCI-accredited Ramaiah Memorial Hospital.
