TAL Sankranti Celebrations 2026
On Sunday, 18 January, Sankranti celebrations were held in London under the auspices of the Telugu Association of London (TAL). More than 700 Telugu people from London and surrounding areas attended these joyful festivities.
The event, held in London, immersed everyone in the festive spirit of Sankranti through traditional customs and cultural performances. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm as participants took part in various activities such as Bommala Koluvu (festival doll display), Bhogi Pallu, rangoli competitions, cooking competitions, and kite-making contests.
The Chief Guest of the event, Redbridge Mayor Councillor Beverley Brewer, praised TAL’s commitment to the community. She commended the Association’s key service initiatives and appreciated the organisation’s efforts and dedication in bringing cultural diversity onto a single platform. She emphasised the importance of young people recognising their cultural roots and carrying that rich heritage forward. She also appreciated TAL’s efforts to bring this culture closer to the younger generation and keep it vibrant and alive.
It is noteworthy that the successful organisation of the event was led by TAL women members Uma Geervani, Himabindu, Surekha, Swapna B, Swapna G, Shalini, Jyotsna, and Shajma, with the support and cooperation of Giridhar, Roy B, Vijay B, and Anil Ananthula. The fundraising efforts were led by Trustees Venkat Neela, Ravi Kumar Reddy Mocherla, and Treasurer Anil Ananthula. Heartfelt thanks were expressed to the respected sponsors for their generous support in making the event a success.
Chairman Ravi Sabba conveyed his gratitude to the parents, members, and dedicated volunteers who have consistently extended their unwavering support and cooperation to every TAL initiative. Trustee Sri Ashok Madishetti spoke about the wide range of training classes offered by the TAL Cultural Centre (TCC). From traditional dance and music to language instruction, these classes provide a powerful platform for people of all ages to connect with their Telugu heritage. He also mentioned that Convenor Vasu Mereddy invited everyone to attend the TAL Ugadi 2026 celebrations scheduled to be held on 21 March.
Giridhar Putlur expressed heartfelt thanks to the dedicated volunteers who worked tirelessly: Murali K, Vijay B, Naga G, Ravi D, Wajid, Kranthi R, Sri Ram, and many other volunteers. From the captivating Bommala Koluvu decorations to the impressive rangoli competition, their commitment and hard work ensured the outstanding success of every aspect of the celebration. TAL Trustees Anil Ananthula, Ravi Kumar Reddy Mocherla, Sridevi Aledula, Venkat Neela, Ashok Madishetti, Kiran Kappeta, and Sathya Peddireddy also provided their invaluable support. The event stood out as a vibrant showcase of diverse traditions from the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, featuring engaging songs and dance performances, along with a delightful display of mouth-watering traditional cuisine.
