Did Christopher Nolan Win India Again? The Odyssey’s Box Office Tells the Story Box Office?
– Surya Prakash Josyula
There were huge expectations for The Odyssey even before its release. Since it is Christopher Nolan’s first film after Oppenheimer, advance bookings were also strong. But every movie faces its real test only at the box office. So, has The Odyssey really worked in India? Let’s take a look at the first two days’ collections and its response in Telugu states.
How Are the First Two Days?
According to trade reports, The Odyssey collected around ₹20 crore gross on its first day in India. Positive reviews and strong social media buzz helped the film hold well on the second day too. Occupancy has remained strong, especially in IMAX and premium screens.
Trade analysts believe the film has a good chance of touching ₹60 crore gross by the end of its opening weekend. It is a very good start for a Hollywood film.
Has the Nolan Brand Worked Again?
One important thing to note is that Christopher Nolan has had a special market in India for many years. He has a loyal fan base here, and many movie lovers eagerly wait for his films.
The journey started with The Dark Knight.
It grew bigger with Inception.
Interstellar became a cult favourite among Indian audiences.
Then Oppenheimer took Nolan’s market to another level.
However, not everyone liked Oppenheimer. So, there were doubts about whether the same craze would continue this time. On top of that, there was very little publicity in India. The film did not create much buzz in the media, and there were no special promotions for regional markets.
But despite all that…
Looking at the opening collections of The Odyssey, it is clear that Nolan’s craze has not reduced. Many people are going to theatres simply because it is “a Christopher Nolan film.”
How Is the Film Performing in Telugu States?
Competition was not small in the Telugu states this weekend.
Akhil Akkineni’s Lenin was already running in theatres. This week, new Telugu releases like Oh..! Sukumari, Raja The Raja, Vadalaa, Mister Middle Class, Venkatramayya Gari Taluka, and Operation Aruna Reddy also hit the screens.
Ram Gopal Varma’s Rakta Charitra was re-released as well.
Even with so many options, The Odyssey received more attention in multiplexes across Hyderabad, Vijayawada, and Visakhapatnam.
This does not mean Telugu films have fallen behind.
It simply shows that audiences were interested in watching a film that has become a global talking point.
Finally…
Based on the first two days’ trend, The Odyssey has made a good start in India. This is not just another Hollywood success story. The film once again shows that Christopher Nolan still has strong brand value in India, and that a new generation of audiences is willing to watch global cinema.
Current trends also suggest that the film may continue the same momentum on Sunday.
However, whether the collections will remain strong after the opening weekend is something we will have to wait and see.ో
