Hyundai Motor India and Radio Mirchi Launch Traffic Quality Index (TQI) Across Seven Cities
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), in collaboration with Radio Mirchi, has officially launched the Hyundai Traffic Quality Index (TQI). Designed as an integrated, real-time traffic rating system, the initiative aims to simplify how commuters navigate urban traffic conditions across seven major Indian cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, and Kolkata. By converting complex traffic data into actionable intelligence, TQI helps motorists make safer and more efficient travel decisions.
Framework and Rating System:
Modeled after widely understood public indices like the Air Quality Index (AQI), TQI utilizes a simple 1-to-10 scale supported by a clear color-coded framework:
Green (1–3): Light Traffic
Yellow (4–7): Moderate Traffic
Red (8–10): Heavy Traffic
This intuitive system allows commuters to assess prevailing conditions at a glance, anticipate congestion hotspots, and choose alternate routes before or during their journeys.
Multi-Layered Intelligence and Broadcast Integration:
The TQI platform is powered by a multi-layered approach that integrates live traffic data tracking, Radio Mirchi’s extensive city-wide on-ground intelligence, and official advisories from traffic authorities regarding road closures, diversions, and civic works. These updates are broadcast regularly through Radio Mirchi’s network, enabling drivers to receive vital traffic information safely without needing to interact with mobile devices while driving.
Leadership and Traffic Authority Perspectives:
Speaking on the launch, Virat Khullar, Head of Marketing at HMIL, emphasized that the initiative extends Hyundai’s long-standing commitment to road safety by empowering commuters with daily utility data that encourages calmer driving behavior. Yatish Mehrishi, CEO of ENIL, highlighted how radio and local RJs provide a unique, trusted channel to deliver consistent traffic insights. Furthermore, senior traffic officials including representatives from Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, and Hyderabad police and transport departments welcomed the initiative, noting that citizen-backed data and timely dissemination will significantly enhance urban traffic management and planning.
