Addressing Indian Diaspora assembled at a civic reception today, 20 April 2025 at Fremont, California, organised by Sri Srikar Reddy, Indian Consul General – San Francisco on the visit of Mrs Nirmala Sitaraman, Hon’ble Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs, Govt of India, Mrs Nirmala Sitaraman spoke on several aspects of Indian economy, India -USA relations, role of Indian community outside India etc.. She defined the Indian Diaspora at Silicon Valley as the community of high Professionals, Technologists, Innovators, and Entrepreneurs directing the world and appreciated their efforts and dynamism. She also said that Indian Diaspora should partner with Indian Start Up Companies and give their knowledge so that not only they and their partner would benefit but also both India and USA would benefit. She referred World Bank’s endorsement that at present India is the fast growing economy in the world, and said that partnering with Indian companies is very appropriate.
Mrs Sitaraman said that Hon’ble Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi is providing a dynamic and visionary leadership, a clean and corrupt free government, a less Government – more governance performance. She also said that PM Modiji came to USA in February 2025 itself and initiated discussions on strong and comprehensive US -India relations ship not only on trade and commerce issues but also on Defence and military partnership etc. She referred PM Modiji’s statement that India and USA would work for increasing the trade between two countries to $500 billion by 2030 from the current figure of $200 billion. Mrs Sitaraman also held a Q & A session and answered questions related to India ‘s current focus areas to Fiscal deficit etc.
Earlier, Sri VInay Mohan Kwatra, Hon’ble Indian Ambassador to USA appreciated the role of Indian Diaspora and announced that Govt of India is considering to start a VHS office in Bay Area and Consulate offices in LA and Boston. Sri Srikar Reddy, Consul general of India at San Francisco gave the welcome address explaining that nearly 10% of 5 million Indian diaspora in USA , around 500,000 reside in California and they are all part of developments Silicon Valley is giving to the world.
