India Takes the Helm Dr. Bhaskar Jyoti Sonowal to Lead BRICS Global MSME Revolution
BRICS: In a move that solidifies India’s burgeoning influence over the global economic landscape, Dr. Bhaskar Jyoti Sonowal has been elected as the President of the BRICS Entrepreneurs Alliance (BEA) Global Forum for the 2026–27 term. This appointment signals a strategic shift within the BRICS+ ecosystem, placing a renewed emphasis on the “backbone” of the global economy: Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
A Strategic Vision for Global Integration:
Dr. Sonowal, who currently serves as the CEO and Executive Director of BEA India, assumes this international mantle at a critical juncture. As the world gears up for the BEA Global Summit in November 2026, his leadership is expected to be the catalyst for deeper cross-border trade and more transparent global partnerships.
“I am honored to take on this responsibility at a time when Indian enterprises are poised to play a transformative role globally,” said Dr. Sonowal. “My focus will be on creating meaningful opportunities and strengthening partnerships across BRICS+ nations.”
The global community has met this appointment with optimism. Mr. Boris Tarasov, Secretary General of BEA Global, noted that India is currently at the “forefront of shaping a more inclusive global trade framework,” while representatives from Russia and Brazil expressed that this leadership will unlock unprecedented bilateral trade corridors.
The Hyderabad Declaration: A Roadmap for Growth:
The foundation for this push was laid during the India BRICS Business Summit held in Hyderabad in April 2026. The summit culminated in the signing of the “Hyderabad Declaration,” a comprehensive document that outlines the future of MSME development.
Market Access: Facilitating easier entry for small businesses into international markets.
Collaborative Trust: Building an ecosystem grounded in transparency to reduce the friction of global trade.
Regional Growth Hubs: A specific focus on developing states, with Dr. Raj Bhushan Choudhary highlighting sectors like agro-food parks, healthcare, and tourism in Bihar as prime targets for new investment.
Government Synergy and National Impact:
The initiative aligns seamlessly with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has long advocated for MSME growth as a vehicle for international cooperation.
Shri Jitan Ram Manjhi, Union Minister of MSME, emphasized that the Ministry is fully supporting BEA India’s efforts. He urged entrepreneurs to actively utilize government schemes to scale their businesses globally. By bridging the gap between local policy and international opportunity, the BEA aims to position India as the central engine of the BRICS+ trade landscape.
The Path Ahead:
As the BEA expands its footprint through national business summits and engagement platforms, the goal remains clear: to create a resilient, innovation-driven global ecosystem. Under Dr. Sonowal’s presidency, the BRICS+ nations are no longer just discussing trade—they are building a collaborative infrastructure where the smallest entrepreneur has a seat at the global table.
