AM/NS India Signs Shareholders’ Agreement to Upgrade Four Government ITIs in Andhra Pradesh Under PM-SETU Scheme
ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, has signed a pivotal Shareholders’ Agreement (SHA) with the Government of India and the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The agreement formalizes the implementation of an approved ₹200 crore Strategic Investment Plan to upgrade four Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the Visakhapatnam cluster under the Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM-SETU) scheme. To oversee operations and upgrades, a dedicated Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) will be established, with AM/NS India holding a 51% majority stake, while the Central Government and the Government of Andhra Pradesh will hold 24.5% each.
Scope of Upgrades and Academic Partnership:
The project will be executed in collaboration with the New Age Makers’ Institute of Technology (NAMTECH), serving as AM/NS India’s academic and technical partner. Upgrades will cover four key institutes in the region:
Government ITI (Old), Kancharapalem: Functioning as the main hub/hub-training centre supporting shared facilities.
Government ITI (Girls), Industrial Estate, Visakhapatnam
Government ITI, Bobbili
Government ITI, Narsipatnam
The planned intervention involves modernizing workshop infrastructure, revising curricula, introducing industry-relevant technical trades, and executing comprehensive instructor-training modules to align vocational education with modern manufacturing standards.
Leadership Perspectives and PM-SETU Context:
