Parliament Monsoon Session from July 20 to August 13: Government Announces
The schedule for the Parliament’s Monsoon Session has been finalized. Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, announced on Saturday that this year’s monsoon session will take place from July 20 to August 13. Following the approval of the Central Government’s recommendation by President Droupadi Murmu, Rijiju officially released the schedule for both houses of Parliament.
Minister Kiren Rijiju stated that this session is expected to witness extensive discussions on matters of national priority, scrutiny of legislative bills, and key decision-making. He expressed hope for meaningful debates and consultations on issues concerning national interest.
Expectations of a Heated Session
With shifting political dynamics and an aggressive opposition gearing up to corner the government, this session is expected to be highly stormy. Ahead of the session’s commencement, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is likely to take a decision regarding the merger of six Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs who joined the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), as well as matters concerning 20 Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs.
Key Issues on the Opposition’s Agenda
Meanwhile, the opposition is preparing to target the government on several critical issues, including:
Deficit rainfall, droughts, and floods
The NEET question paper leak case
Theft of donations and gifts at the Ayodhya Ram Temple
Rising petrol and diesel prices, inflation, and unemployment
Additionally, the opposition parties are expected to question the government over issues related to the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls, as well as the alleged role of the Central Government in the internal rifts within regional political parties.
