Heavy Rains in Maharashtra: 13 Dead
Maharashtra is witnessing torrential rains. Continuous downpours over the past week have thrown life out of gear across the state. Consequently, 13 people have lost their lives nationwide, and several others have been injured. Meanwhile, the government has gone on high alert and swung into action to carry out rapid relief operations.
Due to the rains, Mumbai has been completely inundated. The situation in Pune is equally grim, with landslides being reported. As a result, several residential structures have collapsed.
The incessant rains have brought Mumbai to a standstill. Schools and colleges have been shut down, and the services of the city’s famous Dabbawalas have been suspended. All examinations under the jurisdiction of Mumbai University have been postponed. Mumbai’s roads resemble lakes, and railway stations are waterlogged. Furthermore, flight services have been severely disrupted due to the heavy downpours.
A red alert has been issued for Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad districts. The weather department has warned of extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 80–90 km/h. Officials have advised citizens not to step out unless it is absolutely necessary.
