Congress Focuses on Punjab: Seniors Left in the Cold
With the Punjab Assembly elections coming up next year, the Congress party has shifted into alert mode early on. The party leadership is determined to capture power in Punjab by any means necessary, where the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is currently in power. The high command is highly focused on bringing the party back to power by the time the next elections arrive.
Against this backdrop, with a year still left for the polls, the Congress party has announced its election campaign committee. The high command has appointed former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi as the chairman of this campaign committee, while other leaders have been inducted as members. However, highly senior leader Manish Tewari was sidelined and did not find a place in any of the committees.
Expressing his displeasure openly over this decision, Manish Tewari took to X (formerly Twitter) and commented:
“It seems having competence itself is a major flaw. I wish I knew the way to dispel people’s insecurities. Congress has given me numerous opportunities over the last 45 years, and I too have dedicated my life to the party. But whatever is destined to happen in life will happen.”
Meanwhile, Congress sources have clarified that Manish Tewari did not find a place in the election team because the Chandigarh constituency he currently represents does not fall under the Punjab state jurisdiction. Notably, Tewari has previously represented the Ludhiana and Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha constituencies in Punjab.
