Former PM Sheikh Hasina to Return to Home Country in December
Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has decided to return to her home country in December. She is currently staying in India as a refugee. Despite the risk of arrest or death upon her return to Bangladesh, she has made the decision to go back. Furthermore, reports suggest she plans to return home and surrender before the courts.
Sheikh Hasina stated that she has decided to return to her home country in December, though she is not in any communication with Dhaka. “When I go back, they might arrest me, or they might even kill me,” Sheikh Hasina said. “Even so, I must go.”
She made these sensational remarks during an interview with an international news agency, expressing that she is prepared to face either arrest or death. However, she made it clear that she is not holding any talks with the Bangladeshi government. “They might arrest me after I return home. There is also a possibility they might kill me. Even so, I must go. My party leaders and workers are facing severe oppression. Even if death occurs, I wish to die on my own soil, where my parents were buried,” she announced.
Why did Sheikh Hasina come to India?
Anti-government protests in Bangladesh turned violent. Against this backdrop, Sheikh Hasina left Bangladesh in August 2024 and arrived in India, where she has been taking refuge. Resigning from her post as Prime Minister, she hastily boarded a military helicopter and reached the Hindon Air Force Base in India. Since then, she has been sheltering in India.
