Battle of the Hindus Cricket Big Match Returns for 2023 Sri Lanka

On the 30th of June and 1st of July 2023, cricket enthusiasts will be treated to the much-anticipated “Battle of the Hindus” cricket big match at the Tamil Union International Stadium. This prestigious tournament, which first began in 1981, had to be temporarily halted after 1982 due to prevailing circumstances in the country. However, it made a remarkable comeback in 2009 and has now become a prominent fixture in the Sri Lanka school cricket calendar.

The “Battle of the Hindus” is an exhilarating contest that showcases the exceptional talent and sporting spirit of the students from Hindu College Colombo and Jaffna Hindu College. Spanning two days, the match follows the rules and regulations set by the Sri Lanka School Cricket Association, allowing the players to display their cricketing prowess and compete for victory.

A significant development took place on the 18th of June 2023 when the Principles of Hindu College Colombo and Jaffna Hindu College signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Board Room of Tamil Union. This MoU reflects the commitment of both institutions to foster camaraderie and promote healthy competition among their students.

Today, the excitement reached new heights as the cricket captains from both schools unveiled the highly sought-after 12th “Battle of the Hindus” cup. This prestigious trophy symbolizes the pinnacle of achievement for the victorious team, serving as a testament to their dedication and hard work throughout the tournament.

The grandeur of the occasion was further enhanced by the presence of Mr. Schaffter, representing the Janashakthi Group, as the title sponsor.
