Swiggy Introduces Multi-Restaurant Ordering Feature Across 720+ Cities
On-demand convenience platform Swiggy Ltd (NSE: SWIGGY / BSE: 544285) has officially introduced a Multi-Restaurant Ordering feature on its application. Implemented across 720+ cities, the new functionality enables users to curate, combine, and purchase items from up to five different restaurants in a single checkout session. Designed to recreate a food court experience at home, the feature lets customers hold multiple carts simultaneously, compare menu items side-by-side, and execute a single payment flow without navigating repetitive checkouts, OTP verifications, or multiple platform charges.
Logistics Execution and Cost Savings:
While the ordering and payment process is consolidated into one transaction, operational fulfillment is handled independently per establishment. Each selected restaurant prepares its specific items separately, with independent delivery handling and routing. Users can monitor all incoming deliveries in real-time via dedicated tabs on a single shared tracking screen on the app. Consolidating multiple restaurant orders into a single checkout also reduces cumulative platform fees that would otherwise apply to individual, separate transactions.
Consumer Insights and Leadership Perspective:
The feature addresses specific consumer ordering patterns identified in Swiggy’s internal research, which revealed that 55% of users create two separate carts in a single app session and 1 in 5 users place a second order within 30 minutes of their initial purchase, frequently leading to abandoned carts or split deliveries. Highlighting the strategic vision behind the launch, Sidharth Bhakoo, Chief Business Officer at Swiggy Food Marketplace, stated: “Food is the centerpiece of any celebration, but agreeing on a menu is always the hardest part. We are literally bringing the concept of a food court to your home. Multi-Restaurant Ordering is our solution to the ultimate dining dilemma. We’re giving users the power to mix and match from their favorite restaurants or across a range of cuisines, whether it is pairing pizzas with biryani or combining sushi with local street food, all with a single checkout option.”
