Statista survey: Global Perspectives on Ambition Where Success Matters Most Around the World
Global success: A comprehensive global survey conducted by Statista throughout 2025 has shed light on how different cultures prioritize personal achievement. The data reveals that India stands at the forefront of this ambition, with 53 percent of Indian respondents ranking “being successful” as one of the three most vital aspects of their lives. Among the 32 nations analyzed, India emerged as one of the most success-oriented societies in the world.
The Peak of Ambition: Top Ranking Nations:
While India showed high levels of drive, three other nations placed even higher value on achievement. South Africa led the global ranking, with 59 percent of its population identifying success as a top-three life priority. This was followed closely by the Philippines at 58 percent and the United Arab Emirates at 54 percent. These figures highlight a strong cultural emphasis on personal and professional progress within these regions.
Contrasting Values in East Asia:
In stark contrast, respondents in China and Japan placed significantly less emphasis on the traditional concept of success. Only 24 percent of people in China and a mere 18 percent in Japan included it in their top three priorities. For Chinese participants, the focus shifted toward more foundational needs; 45 percent prioritized safety and security, while 37 percent favored maintaining a happy relationship.
Western and South Korean Sentiment:
The United States occupied a middle ground in the study. Four out of every ten Americans (40 percent) viewed success as a primary life pillar. This sentiment was nearly mirrored in South Korea, where 41 percent of the population shared the same focus on achievement. These results illustrate a fascinating global divide in how individuals define a meaningful life, ranging from the pursuit of greatness to the search for stability and connection.
