కోవిడ్, తదితర కారణాల వలన యూనివర్శిటీ ఆఫ్ టేక్సస్, ఆస్టిన్ లో తెలుగు శాఖ గత ఐదారేళ్ళగా నిస్సత్తువగా ఉన్నప్పటికీ... మళ్ళీ కాస్త ఆర్ధిక పరిపుష్టిని పుంజుకుని ఆన్-లైన్ లో తెలుగు భాషా బోధన తరగతులు పున:ప్రారంభించింది అని తెలియజేయడానికి చాలా సంతోషంగా ఉంది. ఈ పున:ప్రారంభానికి, విద్యార్ధులకి ఉపకార వేతనం ఇచ్చి ప్రోత్సహించడానికి గత 2015 సంవత్సరం లో మీ అందరి సహాయం, ఆశీస్సులతో మేము నెలకొల్పిన Vanguri Foundation of America Endowment Fund for Telugu Studies దోహదం చేసింది అని మొన్న ఆస్టిన్ లో ఆయన ఆఫీసులో ఏప్రిల్ 14, 2023 నాడు నేను కలుసుకున్నప్పుడు Dr. Don Davis, Chairperson, South Asian Institute, University of Texas, Austin వ్యక్తిగతంగానూ, అధికారికంగానూ తమ ధన్యవాదాలు తెలిపారు. నాలుగు వాక్యాలు నాతో తెలుగులో మాట్లాడి నన్ను ఆశ్చర్య పరిచారు...ఆనంద పరిచారు. ఇదివరలో నేను అక్కడికి ఒకటి, రెండు సార్లు వెళ్ళినప్పుడు ఆత్మీయులు, ప్రముఖ సాహితీవేత్తలు అఫ్సర్ & కల్పన రెంటాల తో గడిపిన సమయాలు గుర్తుకు వచ్చాయి.
వంగూరి ఫౌండేషన్ ఆఫ్ అమెరికా, ఏర్పాటు చేసిన నిధుల ఆధారంగా (Endowment Fund) కొత్తగా చేరే విద్యార్ధులకి ట్యూషన్ ఫీజులు మొదలైన వాటికి తగిన ఆర్ధిక సహాయం అందుతుంది అని ఆయన ప్రకటించారు. గత ఏడాది ఆ నిధులతో ఒక అమ్మాయి గ్రాంధిక భాష మీద ప్రస్తుతం శ్రీ కాళహస్తి (ఆంధ్ర ప్రదేశ్) లో పరిశోధన చేస్తున్నది అని ఆయన తెలిపినప్పుడు ఎంతో సంతోషం వేసింది. అలాగే మరువాడ ముఖలింగ శాస్త్రి & లక్ష్మీదేవి ల పేరిట ఏర్పడిన Endowment Fund నిధులు తెలుగు భాష ప్రాచుర్యానికి దోహద పడుతున్నాయి అని ఆయన వెల్లడించారు. ఈ విశ్వవిద్యాలయంతో అఫ్సర్ అనుబంధం కొనసాగుతూనే ఉంది అని కూడా ఆయన తెలిపినప్పుడు భలే సంతోషం వేసింది. అమెరికా దేశం లో విశ్వవిద్యాలయ స్థాయిలో తగిన ప్రాధాన్యత కలిగించి, తద్వారా తెలుగు భాషా, సాహిత్యాలకి మనుగడ, పురోగతులకి దోహదం చెయ్యడం, అంతర్జాతీయ భాషగా భాషాకోవిదుల చేత గుర్తించబడడం మనందరం ఆశిస్తున్న ప్రయోజనాలు.

Official Announcement:
In cooperation with the South Asia Summer Language Institute at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the South Asia Institute at UT Austin plans to offer online courses in the South Indian languages Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu during summer 2023 at the beginner and intermediate levels. All courses will be offered through UT Extended Campus, but administered through SAI and the Department of Asian Studies. The courses will be available subject to sufficient enrollments and hiring. Intermediate courses are eligible for Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships.

The fees for students can often be reduced from the advertised rate, which applies especially to students with funding in part by the two existing Endowment Funds for Telugu studies.
