The Strange Loop
The universe produced galaxies.
Galaxies produced stars.
Stars produced elements that built planets and life.
Our planet orbits one star—the Sun.
It is one among hundreds of billions of stars in our galaxy.
And our galaxy is one among an enormous number in the universe.
How did consciousness evolve?
Does consciousness exist elsewhere in the universe?
We do not yet know.
But one fact remains remarkable.
Our brains are made of the same cosmic matter, governed by the same laws, as the rest of the universe.
Yet from that matter emerged a mind capable of asking:
Why does nature obey laws?
Why does existence exist at all?
For what purpose?
What am I?
The universe has become capable of wondering about itself.
