Telangana to Get a Second Exclusive Plastics Park Near Shamshabad: Dr. E. Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, VC & MD of TGIIC

The Telangana and Andhra Plastics Manufacturers Association (TAAPMA), a premier trade body representing over 90% of the plastics industry turnover in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, successfully organized on Friday the 4th edition of its flagship Polymers Conference 2025 at Park Hyatt, Hyderabad.

Themed “Smart, Sustainable, Specialised: The New Phase of Plastics Innovation,” the conference brought together more than 250 delegates from across India.

The conference witnessed participation from several leading industry players including Cosmos Films Ltd, Kohli Printing, DIC India Ltd, and Windmöller & Hölscher, among others.

Dr. E. Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, Vice Chairman & Managing Director of Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC), inaugurated the conference as Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, he emphasised the state’s strong commitment to the polymers sector, citing Telangana as the largest polymers hub in South India.

He announced that a second exclusive Plastics Park is being planned south of the Shamshabad Airport, further building on the success of the TGIIC Mankhal Plastics Park. “We are in the process of finalising the location. Given the rising demand, the government is actively considering this expansion in consultation with the industry,” he said.

Dr. Reddy also highlighted the state’s efforts in promoting women entrepreneurship through Mahilashakti Industrial Hubs in every district and emphasized Telangana’s growing role as a circular economy leader.

Responding to concerns raised by Mr. Anil Reddy Vennam, Senior Vice President of the All India Plastics Manufacturers’ Association (AIPMA), regarding skyrocketing land prices, Dr. Reddy assured that land rates in plastic parks are being frozen until 50% occupancy is achieved. To support MSMES, he announced the rollout of flatted factory sheds and plug-and-play facilities at subsidised rates, with three such units ready for occupation.

Additionally, Dr. Reddy announced Telangana’s first dry port at Manoharabad, which will be developed as a multi-modal logistics hub under a PPP model, with two more dry ports in the pipeline.

Mr. Anil Reddy Vennam, Sr VP, AIPMA, pointed out that although the polymer industry should ideally mirror or outpace GDP growth, it has seen inconsistent performance. “Polymer consumption in 2024–25 stood at 20.4 million metric tonnes, reflecting just 4% growth over the previous year. Prices remain lower than pre-COVID levels, and domestic raw material producers are not adequately supporting local players,” he noted.

He further appealed to the government for the establishment of a dedicated plastics recycling park and allocation of 500 acres for TAAPMA-led development.

In his welcome address, Mr. Narendra Baldwa, President, TAAPMA, stressed the importance of innovation focused on sustainability, circularity, and advanced materials, while recognizing Telangana’s industry-friendly policies.

Mr. Shiv Kumar Gupta, Conference Chair, noted that environment and sustainability are now at the forefront of industry transformation. “Telangana’s forest cover of 24% is well above the national average of 21.71% — this is a significant ecological advantage,” he said.

The conference featured three technical sessions and panel discussions, exploring emerging trends and critical industry challenges.

Other key participants included Mr. Prem Kankaria (Advisor), Mr. AVPS Chakravarthy (Panel Chair), Mr. Kamlesh Gupta (Secretary, TAAPMA), and Mr. Rahul Agarwal (Conference Co-Chairman).
