Tewolde Gebremariam to Replace Campbell Wilson as Air India CEO & MD
Prominent aviation company Air India has appointed former Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Tewolde Gebremariam as its next Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). He will take over the leadership responsibilities from Campbell Wilson, who resigned from his position earlier this year in April.
Air India stated that this crucial appointment was finalized following a comprehensive global search and evaluation of top-tier candidates. This leadership transition assumes immense significance as it comes at a time when the airline is aggressively executing its expansion and modernization programs under the ownership of the Tata Group.
During his highly successful tenure as the CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, Gebremariam steered the company through a massive billion-dollar expansion, effectively transforming it into Africa’s largest and most profitable aviation company. Air India is now looking to heavily leverage his vast industry experience, proven leadership, and strategic vision to drive its own global growth and turnaround ambitions.
