Microsoft Opens Its Largest India Data Centre Hub in Hyderabad as AI Race Heats Up

Accelerating its expansion in India’s rapidly growing AI and cloud market, Microsoft inaugurated its largest data centre hub in the country on Thursday in Hyderabad. Titled ‘India South Central’, this new facility brings Microsoft’s total number of cloud regions in India to four, complementing its existing operations in Pune, Chennai, and Mumbai. With this major expansion, Microsoft further solidifies its dominance as the leading cloud service provider in the country. Prominent enterprises Adani Group and HDFC Bank have stepped up as the first organizations to leverage this new infrastructure.

This development aligns with Microsoft’s previously announced massive investment of approximately $20.5 billion to meet the surging demand for AI and cloud services in India. The company noted that its cloud business, Azure, has consistently recorded double-digit revenue growth in India over the past two years. Additionally, Microsoft already operates two data centers in partnership with Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio. Highlighting the strategic importance of the launch, Microsoft India President Puneet Chandok stated that robust infrastructure located close to data consumers is essential to delivering fast and secure AI services.
