Maruti Suzuki Crosses 1 Million Cumulative Vehicle Dispatches via In-Plant Railway Sidings

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has reached a major milestone, successfully dispatching 1 million (10 lakh) vehicles cumulatively through its dedicated in-plant railway sidings located at Hansalpur, Gujarat, and Manesar, Haryana. Of this total, approximately 790,000 vehicles were shipped from the Gujarat facility, while about 210,000 vehicles originated from the Manesar siding.

Fast-Track Growth and Environmental Impact:
This milestone was achieved in just three years and five months, following the launch of the Gujarat railway siding in March 2023 and the Manesar siding in June 2025. Maruti Suzuki remains the first and only passenger vehicle original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in India to feature in-plant railway sidings directly integrated into its manufacturing complexes.

Developed under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, these multi-modal facilities have transformed logistics by moving vehicle transportation off roads and onto railways. This strategic shift has significantly reduced fuel consumption, eased road congestion, and successfully cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. During the current fiscal year up to August 31, the company’s total rail-based dispatches have already exceeded 300,000 vehicles.

Future Outlook and Sustainability Goals:
Highlighting the achievement, Managing Director & CEO Hisashi Takeuchi noted that rail-based dispatches have grown dramatically from 5% in FY 2014-15 to 26.5% in FY 2025-26. The company has set a mid-term objective to increase this share to 35% by FY 2030-31, supported by continued infrastructure investments including a planned in-plant siding at the upcoming Kharkhoda manufacturing facility aligned with India’s Net Zero ambitions.

Cumulatively, Maruti Suzuki has shipped over 3.3 million vehicles via rail since FY 2014-15, with 1 million originating directly from its in-plant Gujarati and Haryana sidings and the remainder managed through external loading terminals.
