JLR India Posts Record Q1 Retail Sales Driven by Strong Luxury SUV Demand
JLR India announced its highest-ever first-quarter retail performance, delivering 1,665 units in Q1 FY27—an 11% increase year-on-year (YoY). Wholesale volumes also maintained a positive trajectory, reaching 1,694 units, representing a 4% YoY growth. Flagship models including the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and Defender collectively drove over 85% of total retail sales during the quarter, reaffirming their dominant position within the Indian luxury SUV segment. Notably, the Defender retained its status as JLR India’s top-selling model, highlighting sustained consumer demand for its rugged luxury appeal.
Impact of India-UK FTA on SV and Bespoke Demand:
The quarter saw accelerated momentum for high-end personalisation following the implementation of revised pricing for the Range Rover SV and Range Rover Sport SV under the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Offering financial benefits of up to ₹75 lakhs depending on the specific model, the trade pact has spurred a sharp rise in client enquiries and custom Bespoke commissions across both luxury nameplates.
Leadership Perspectives on FY27 Outlook:
Rajan Amba, Managing Director of JLR India, noted that the company has commenced FY27 with robust momentum, fueled by high demand for core luxury models and increased interest in SV and Bespoke variants resulting from the India-UK FTA. Welcoming the trade agreement as a pivotal milestone for the Indian luxury automotive sector, Amba emphasized that the policy enables the brand to deliver more curated SV editions, exclusive special vehicles, and personalized creations tailored to individual consumer aspirations as the company positions itself for a strong fiscal year.
