JSW Group Enters Commercial Electric Vehicle Market with Brand AMPSTAR
JSW Greentech Limited, the commercial electric vehicle subsidiary of the JSW Group, has launched AMPSTAR to design, manufacture, and sell electric buses and trucks in India. Endorsed as “AMPSTAR: powered by JSW,” the brand provides a full-stack commercial mobility solution that encompasses the entire customer journey, including charging infrastructure, operating systems, flexible financing, and comprehensive after-sales support. Customers can specify power configurations ranging from 150 kW to 500 kW and select from various ownership models, including outright purchase, leasing, and Battery as a Service (BaaS).
Manufacturing Facility and In-House Engineering:
AMPSTAR vehicles will be manufactured at India’s largest integrated EV production plant, a 90-acre greenfield facility located at AURIC, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, boasting an annual capacity of 15,000 electric buses and trucks. The plant incorporates India’s first pre-treatment and electro-deposition (PT-ED) bus manufacturing process, an automated truck-cabin line, and an integrated battery ecosystem. Engineered entirely in-house for rigorous Indian operating conditions, the vehicles feature proprietary software, a double cooling battery system, and a high-strength monocoque chassis.
Leadership Vision and Product Portfolio:
Commenting on the launch, JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal emphasized that the initiative aims to boost national energy security and reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels. Parth Jindal noted that the brand identity merges technology (“Amp”) with progress (“Star”) to resolve adoption barriers. Sumit Mittal, CEO of JSW Greentech, detailed the initial product portfolio: bus options spanning from 7 to 18 meters for staff, city, intercity, and school mobility, alongside a 55-tonne tractor-trailer truck with future expansions planned into tippers and fixed-body dumpers.
