HCG Vizag and NSRIT College Students Organize Public Flash Mob for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
To mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Healthcare Global Speciality Hospital (HCG Vizag), in association with students from NSRIT College, Visakhapatnam, organized a public health flash mob on October 25, 2026. The initiative leveraged youth engagement to break social taboos around cancer, stress the importance of early detection, and encourage women to undergo timely preventive health screenings. Around 40 college students participated in the live performance, drawing public attention to routine screening practices, including mammography and cervical health checks (Pap smears).
Free Health Checkups and Student Recognition:
As part of its ongoing community outreach and public health efforts, HCG Vizag offered complimentary basic preventive blood and sugar checks at the venue for attendees. All participating students were presented with certificates of appreciation and tokens of recognition to acknowledge their active contribution to community health education.
Leadership and Specialist Insights:
Dr. Prasad I. P, Chief Operating Officer, HCG Oncology, Visakhapatnam, stated: “The development of cancer treatment should go hand in hand with increased societal knowledge on the need for early detection. Awareness for breast cancer is not only about spreading information but creating an environment in which women feel confident about taking care of themselves, consulting medical practitioners and going for screening without fear. Initiatives like this flash mob help create discussions in society, overcome old inhibitions and increase the need for preventive healthcare.”
Dr. Gunturu Indira, Radiation Oncologist, noted: “Lack of awareness and delayed diagnosis remain primary challenges in cancer care today. Most late-stage diagnoses occur simply because individuals hesitate or delay routine check-ups due to social stigma or lack of information. When detected at an early stage, conditions like breast and cervical cancers are highly treatable and manageable.”
