BYD India Announces Price Hike of Up to ₹1 Lakh on Select EV Variants
Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD (Build Your Dreams) India has officially announced an upward price revision across select variants of its passenger vehicle lineup. The new pricing structure came into effect on July 1, 2026, with price increases ranging from ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh, depending directly on the specific model and trim level selected.
According to official company statements, the price hike will impact designated variants of three prominent models in BYD’s Indian portfolio: the BYD Atto 3 SUV, the BYD Sealion 7, and the premium BYD Seal sedan. However, in a move to keep entry points accessible for buyers, the automaker clarified that the baseline pricing for certain variants of the Atto 3 and the eMax 7 MPV will remain completely unchanged.
Rising Component Costs and Network Expansion Drive the Hike
Rajeev Chauhan, Head of the Electric Passenger Vehicles Division at BYD India, explained that the retail price correction was necessitated by mounting macroeconomic factors.
Input Material Strain: A sustained increase in global raw material costs and ongoing inflationary pressures have significantly altered manufacturing margins.
Infrastructure Reinvestment: The brand is channeling heavy capital investments into aggressively expanding its sales and service dealer network across India, alongside integrating new localized technologies into its vehicle platforms.
Chauhan noted that adjusting the pricing grid for select premium variants became entirely unavoidable to sustain the brand’s operational quality and long-term commitment to the Indian market.
Strengthening the Indian Footprint
As a global powerhouse in the production of pure electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid cars, and advanced renewable energy solutions, BYD has been rapidly scaling its footprint in India’s competitive clean-mobility sector. Despite the marginal price adjustments on its premium trims, the automaker’s diverse lineup continues to attract strong consumer interest as the domestic market experiences an unprecedented wave of EV adoption.
