Apollo & ePlane Company Partner for India’s 1st Electric Air Ambulance

In a major step toward revolutionizing emergency medical services in the country, Apollo Hospitals has entered into a strategic partnership with Chennai-based ePlane Company. This collaboration aims to explore and integrate electric air ambulances and medical delivery drones into India’s healthcare ecosystem. The ePlane Company’s specialized e200X electric air ambulance will be deployed for critical medical operations, including inter-hospital patient transfers, trauma cases, cardiac emergencies, strokes, and time-sensitive organ transport.

The primary objective of this initiative is to provide emergency medical transit that is significantly faster than traditional road ambulances and much more cost-effective than conventional helicopters. Simultaneously, Amber Wings—a subsidiary of the ePlane Company—will deploy specialized medical drones to establish a rapid transport system between healthcare facilities for blood, organs, vaccines, essential medicines, and lab samples.

Leveraging Apollo’s Vast Healthcare Network
To ensure the success of this ambitious project, Apollo will integrate these aerial vehicles into its extensive nationwide network, which currently comprises hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, diagnostic centers, and a ground fleet of over 1,066 road ambulances.

Looking ahead, Apollo Hospitals is actively exploring the outright purchase of e200X air ambulances and medical drones, along with potential strategic investments in the ePlane Company itself. However, before full-scale commercial operations can commence, the initiative must secure mandatory approvals from aviation and regulatory bodies, notably the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Addressing the critical issue of lives lost due to delayed medical care, Apollo Hospitals Chairman Dr. Prathap C. Reddy stated that this partnership will be instrumental in delivering rapid emergency services, even to the most remote and hard-to-reach areas. Echoing this sentiment, ePlane Founder Prof. Satya Chakravarthy emphasized that this aerial technology will benefit millions of patients by drastically reducing the crucial transit time between the site of a medical emergency and the commencement of proper hospital treatment.
