Ahead of iPhone 18 Launch, Apple Devices Run Short in India as Supply Tightens
As tech giant Apple prepares for its annual flagship iPhone launch event, a sharp drop in the availability of iPhones and MacBooks across the Indian market is triggering concerns among festive shoppers and retail partners.
Deliveries that typically conclude within two to three days are now stretching over a week. The supply crunch has led to restocking delays across Apple’s six official company-owned retail stores in India, while independent electronics retailers in major metropolitan hubs report widespread stockouts of iPhone 15, iPhone 16, and iPhone 17 models.
Apple insiders have acknowledged the operational bottlenecks, clarifying that the constraints are not isolated to the company alone; a broader global tightening in component availability is similarly impacting rival smartphone manufacturers.
Strategic Stockpiling by Retailers
Beyond global supply chain headwinds, market dynamics indicate that retailer behavior is exacerbating the shortage.
Traditionally, the arrival of a new iPhone generation triggers immediate price reductions on preceding models. However, retail channels anticipate that older iPhone models will resist price cuts even after the debut of the upcoming iPhone 18, with tight supplies potentially pushing market prices higher. In anticipation of higher profit margins during the peak festive shopping season, several retailers are reportedly holding back existing inventory from open store shelves.
iPhone 17 Retains Top Sales Spot
Despite the prevailing supply constraints and a marginal dip in Apple’s broader market share in 2026, consumer demand remains resilient. According to data from market research firm IDC, the iPhone 17 maintained its strong market momentum to rank as the number one best-selling smartphone in India during the first six months of the year.
