Adani Group Begins Construction on ₹2,500 Crore Missile Manufacturing Hub in Madhya Pradesh
Marking a new chapter in India’s defense sector, Adani Defence and Aerospace has officially commenced the construction of a cutting-edge defense manufacturing plant in the Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh. Being built at an estimated cost of ₹2,500 crore, the massive facility is poised to significantly bolster the nation’s indigenous military capabilities.
The state-of-the-art plant will focus on the complex production of medium and long-range missile systems, composite propellants, and modern high-grade explosives such as TNT. Representatives from the Adani Group stated that the core objective of the project is to drastically reduce India’s reliance on foreign military imports, closely aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) visions.
Massive Job Creation and MSME Integration
Expected to become fully operational within the next three years, the Shivpuri facility will act as a major economic catalyst for the region, driving both employment and industrial partnerships:
Direct Employment: The manufacturing hub is projected to generate direct employment opportunities for approximately 5,000 people.
Supply Chain Growth: More than 50 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) will be formally integrated into the complex manufacturing supply chain, providing a significant boost to local vendors and domestic industries.
Moving Beyond Assembly to Full-Scale Manufacturing
Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airport Holdings Limited, emphasized the group’s strategic vision for defense production. He clarified that their ultimate goal is not merely to assemble imported spare parts, but to manufacture advanced weaponry using complete, end-to-end indigenous technology.
Highlighting the company’s existing track record, he noted the success of the operational Adani Defence Complex located in Gwalior. The Gwalior facility is already actively producing assault rifles, carbines, and Light Machine Guns (LMGs). Underscoring their production efficiency, he revealed that the company recently delivered a crucial consignment of 2,000 LMGs to the Indian Army an impressive 11 months ahead of the official delivery schedule.
