University of Canterbury Concludes Five-City Open Day Series Across India
Aotearoa New Zealand’s University of Canterbury | Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha (UC) recently concluded a five-city Open Day series across India, engaging with future students and their families to explore study options and career opportunities in New Zealand.
Event Highlights and Engagement
Tour Details: The series took place from August 31 to September 8 across Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kochi.
Attendance: Over 225 people attended the events, where they interacted with leading UC academics, staff, and alumni to learn about studying in Ōtautahi Christchurch.
Student Interaction: Attendees participated in presentations, conversations, and interactive sessions to ask questions regarding entry requirements, career pathways, and student life. One student traveled seven hours by train to attend the Kochi event, describing it as well worth the travel.
Leadership Insights and Institutional Connections
Building Lasting Connections: UC Assistant Vice-Chancellor Engagement Dr. David Craig noted that face-to-face meetings help students and families better understand what studying and living abroad will actually be like.
Global Community: Dr. Craig emphasized the university’s goal to help students from India build knowledge, confidence, and experience to succeed in their careers while feeling at home in the Christchurch community.
Notable Alumni: The strong connection between India and UC is highlighted by graduates such as Dr. Gregory King, a Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Indian Premier League franchise Chennai Super Kings, whose doctorate exploring fast-bowling performance was recently recognized at UC’s spring graduation celebrations.
