Why Use Force on Students? Opposition Blasts Government in Parliament

Priyanka Gandhi demanded that Union Home Minister Amit Shah answer for the crackdown on students who were protesting for educational reforms following the NEET question paper leak. She directly questioned who authorized the attack on the protesting students. Raising a series of questions to the Centre, Priyanka Gandhi asked why tear gas was fired at them and what necessitated the use of pellet guns against students.

A discussion on the Anti-Paper Leak Bill took place in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, during which MP Priyanka Gandhi addressed the House and demanded that the government reveal who ordered the suppression of the students’ protest.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi also launched a scathing attack on the Centre during the debate. He lashed out that while the youth were fighting against paper leaks, Prime Minister Modi was sitting around making reels. He criticized the Prime Minister for focusing on Instagram rather than resolving key issues. Gogoi alleged that the government lacked any genuine intent to solve the leakage problem and was not interested in meaningful change. He further questioned the grand receptions hosted for the PM, asking sarcastically whether he had returned after winning a war against Pakistan.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav stated that the BJP saved PM Modi by removing Dharmendra Pradhan from his post. He commended the youth protests that forced the government to concede to their demands. Akhilesh remarked that the nationwide student protests and the Gen Z movement over the paper leak controversy brought the Modi government to its knees. He added that under public pressure, Pradhan had to resign, and took a dig at the government, saying that exam paper leaks and donations have now become common practice.
