Shaurya Vijay Yatra Flagged Off for Kargil Vijay Diwas 2026
In commemoration of Kargil Vijay Diwas 2026, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh officially flagged off the ‘Shaurya Vijay Yatra’ from the National War Memorial in New Delhi. This 13-day, 1,900-km motorcycle expedition features 28 riders comprising serving and retired defence personnel alongside the next of kin of martyrsriding Jawa and Yezdi motorcycles toward the Kargil War Memorial in Dras, Ladakh.
Expedition Route and Significance:
The journey, themed ‘One Ride, One Nation, One Salute’, is designed to honour the courage and supreme sacrifice of Indian soldiers during the 1999 Kargil War. Key elements of the expedition include:
Symbolic Gesture: The riders are carrying sacred soil from the National War Memorial to Kargil to symbolize the confluence of generations of Indian war heroes.
Commemorative Stops: The route includes visits to war memorials in Chandimandir, Rezang La, and Leh, before concluding at the Kargil War Memorial on July 26, 2026.
Honouring Resilience: Throughout the journey, the team will felicitate Veer Naris to recognize their strength and resilience.
Commemoration and National Pride:
The flag-off ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of the Army Staff. Addressing the attendees, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh paid tribute to India’s bravehearts, specifically remembering Param Vir Chakra awardees such as Captain Vikram Batra and Lieutenant Manoj Kumar Pandey, while emphasizing the importance of upholding values of duty and selflessness.
Initiated by Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles in 2021, this annual tribute has become a tradition that fosters national pride. Anupam Thareja, Co-founder of Classic Legends, stated that the expedition aims to connect new generations with the values of valour and discipline demonstrated by the Indian Armed Forces. The motorcycles participating in this year’s journey include the Jawa 350, 42, 42 FJ, and the Yezdi Adventure and Scrambler.
