India Inc Backs PM Modi’s Independence Day Address, Vows to Boost Investment and Jobs
Corporate India has expressed strong support for the ambitious goals outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Independence Day address. The prime minister’s call to action regarding investments, manufacturing, job creation, innovation, and self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat) has resonated deeply with industry leaders.
Representatives from major industry bodies, including the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), emphasized that the industry is ready to work hand-in-hand with the government to translate Modi’s vision from announcements into actionable ground realities. They highlighted the urgent need for increased investments across diverse sectors, including manufacturing, agriculture and food processing, semiconductors, nuclear energy, defense, technology, and the green and blue economies.
Building Global Brands from the Grassroots
CII specifically pointed out the significant opportunity presented by Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) currently being negotiated or finalized by India. The industry body suggested that India should leverage these newly accessible international markets to build world-class global brands for domestic products.
Key agricultural products such as millets, spices, fruits, and flowers have immense export potential. By creating strong global brands for these items, Indian farmers and rural businesses can tap into lucrative new markets. This strategy would not only uplift rural economies but also significantly strengthen India’s position within global supply chains.
Driving Growth Through the ‘Saptadhara’ Vision
The industry firmly believes that the key sectors identified in PM Modi’s ‘Saptadhara’ (seven streams) vision will serve as the primary engines of India’s economic growth over the next decade. CII and ASSOCHAM stressed that enhancing domestic capabilities in strategic sectors is now more crucial than ever. These sectors include:
– Semiconductors
– Nuclear energy
– Defense manufacturing
– The green economy
Given the current backdrop of complex geopolitical tensions, industry representatives noted the pressing need for India to reduce its reliance on other nations for critical resources, particularly energy and essential minerals. To successfully achieve the ambitious goal of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) by the year 2047, industry circles assert that a collaborative approach between the government and the private sector is essential. This partnership must maintain a relentless focus on long-term capital investments, fostering cutting-edge innovation, and undertaking massive skill development initiatives to prepare the workforce for future challenges.
