Immediate medical treatment must be provided to Sonam Wangchuk: Court orders
Social activist Sonam Wangchuk’s health is deteriorating. In this context, the Delhi High Court has intervened. It ordered that any necessary medical treatment be provided under the supervision of a government doctor to save his life. “The life of every citizen is precious. Governments must make every effort to protect such lives,” the court stated.
A petition was filed in the High Court stating that if Wangchuk continues his hunger strike for another 48 hours, his life would be in danger. The petition expressed concern that his health was not being taken care of at all. The court conducted a hearing on this petition. The government announced that it would provide appropriate treatment to him based on the report given by the doctors.
For the past 19 days, Wangchuk has been staging a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. He started the fast demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, holding him responsible for the lapses in the conduct of the NEET exam.
