Force Used Against Students: Massive Ruckus in Parliament

The row erupted when Rahul accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of issuing orders to open fire and use force against the students.

Rahul stated that the people of the country understood the youth’s anguish and that all parties respected their sentiments. He noted that students were deeply distressed by paper leaks and took to protesting only after immense grief. He alleged that the police acted provocatively against those protesting peacefully. He asserted that what happened on the streets of Delhi was not just a protest, but an expression of thought, emphasizing that the students agitated peacefully and that the citizens of the nation understood their plight.

Rahul called upon all political parties to rise above politics and respect the students’ protest. He criticized the Centre for failing to understand the protest, which came only after deep distress. He explained that students took to the streets because their pain was ignored, and he strongly condemned the police for lathi-charging and committing violence against them.

Central Ministers Raise Strong Objections to Rahul’s Remarks
Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju and fellow Minister Jitendra Singh raised strong objections to Rahul Gandhi’s statements. They demanded that if Rahul Gandhi had evidence to support his allegations, he should present it before the House. They stated that making such serious accusations without any evidence was uncalled for. Rijiju clarified by giving an example, stating that without proof, even he could claim that Rahul Gandhi committed a murder, illustrating that anyone could throw any allegation around without evidence.

Magistrate Gives Orders, Not the Minister: Jitendra Singh
Speaking on behalf of the Central Government, Jitendra Singh clarified that only tear gas was used against the protesting students and that no shots were fired. Addressing the Assembly, Jitendra Singh refuted Rahul Gandhi’s allegation that Union Home Minister Amit Shah authorized the use of force against the protesters. He clarified that the authority to issue such orders rests with the Magistrate, not the Minister, and took a swipe at Rahul Gandhi by remarking that he lacks administrative experience.
