AAPICON 2026: A Landmark Celebration of Leadership, Healing, Innovation & Indo‑American Collaboration
The AAPI Convention 2026 in Tampa unfolded as one of the most dynamic, meaningful, and culturally vibrant gatherings in the organization’s history. Over four days, over a thousand physicians of Indian origin came together to celebrate excellence in medicine, honor global leaders, launch transformative initiatives, and immerse themselves in a festival of culture, spirituality, and community.
From the emotional and forceful address by AAPI President Dr. Amit Chakrabarty, to Nita Ambani’s Humanitarian Award, to the historic launch of the AAPI Global Foundation, and the powerful Women’s Forum and spiritual keynote by Didi Krishna, AAPICON 2026 reflected the rising influence, unity, and global vision of the Indian‑origin medical community in the United States.
AAPI President Dr. Amit Chakrabarty: An Address Rooted in Unity and Shared Purpose
In his address, Dr. Amit Chakrabarty delivered one of the most heartfelt messages of the convention, emphasizing that AAPI’s strength lies not in individual leadership but in collective purpose.
“For the trust and confidence you have placed in me, I am honored by the opportunity to serve an organization that has become a powerful voice for physicians of Indian origin and an enduring force for healthcare excellence in the United States and beyond.”
He reminded attendees that AAPI’s legacy is built on collaboration: “Today is not about one individual. It is about a shared vision… all of us working together to ensure that AAPI remains strong, relevant, and prepared for the challenges and opportunities in the future.”
Nita Ambani Receives AAPI Humanitarian Award: A New Dawn for Indo‑American Health Collaboration
A defining moment of the convention came when Nita Ambani, Founder and Chairperson of the Reliance Foundation, received the AAPI Humanitarian Award. Her presence electrified the Ball Rom at JW Marritt in Tampa, and signaled a new era of Indo‑American partnership.
Ambani’s words resonated deeply:
“AAPI represents the finest of Indian‑origin medical leadership in the United States… Your dedication to healing, service, and global health inspires millions.”
She emphasized the human dimension of Indo‑American ties: “The relationship between India and the United States has always been strengthened by people — by professionals, innovators, physicians like those in AAPI.”
Her call for collaboration laid the foundation for a landmark partnership between AAPI and the Reliance Foundation, aimed at: Rural and community health transformation, Preventive and integrative medicine, Women’s and children’s health, Telemedicine and digital health, Medical education and capacity building, and, Disaster response and humanitarian outreach.
Ambani articulated the shared mission: “Together, AAPI and the Reliance Foundation can create scalable solutions that uplift women, children, and underserved communities.”
This partnership, once formalized, could become one of the most significant Indo‑American health alliances in history.
Mayor Jane Castor, Mayor of the City of Tampa, said, “We could not be more excited to be hosting the convention of the American Association of physicians of Indian Origin. We are so excited to show off our city and also to welcome so many physicians to share best practices and to think about the future of medicine and how we can treat people kinder and better medically.”
The Mayor presented keys to the City of Tampa to Ms. Ambani and to Dr. Chakrabarty, on behalf of AAPI. She declared July 2nd and every day of the July 4th weekend AAPI Day for the city of Tampa. “It was an honor for me and for our city to have Ms. Ambani in our community. Her speech, her words were so inspiring, and I think everyone that was there walked away with a new level of inspiration,” she said.
Launch of the AAPI Global Foundation: A Platform for Innovation & Global Impact
AAPICON 2026 also marked the historic launch of the AAPI Global Foundation, a visionary platform designed to accelerate innovation, expand humanitarian outreach, and empower healthcare leaders worldwide.
The announcement was met with enthusiastic applause: “A new chapter is started in AAPI called AAPI Global Foundation. It is not just an organization — it is a think tank, it is a university,” said Dr. Lokesh Edara, past Chair of AA{I BOT.
The Foundation Chairman Dr. Jagdish Gupta, who donated $100,000 toward cancer prevention, described its mission: “We are a project‑oriented foundation dedicated to identifying, developing, and advancing innovative initiatives that create meaningful and measurable impact throughout the globe.”
He emphasized that the foundation is a bridge between vision and results: “Our goal is to transform ideas into action — and then our vision into results.”
The launch showcased high‑impact projects in: Cancer prevention, Rural mammography. Screening, CPR & emergency medicine training, Drug‑free India initiatives, HPV vaccination. Medical student research networks, and, STEM Cell Drive.
The foundation’s video captured its ethos: “What if one idea, one project, or one act of service could create a ripple that reaches thousands?”
AAPI Women’s Forum 2026: Celebrating the Diverse & Limitless Identities of Women
The Women’s Forum brought together an extraordinary constellation of leaders across healthcare, public service, academia, sports, and integrative medicine.

Sania Mirza electrified the audience: “We as women have enough people telling us what we can’t do — we should be the people telling ourselves that we can.”
Dr. Sowmya Viswanathan shared her leadership journey: “If I can run a health system, I can manage millions of people.” Dr. Arti Prasad named systemic barriers: “Women who are the ‘onlys’ for their gender are 3.4 times more likely to experience microaggression.”
The forum concluded with a powerful reminder: “Every single one of you embodies what it means to lead without limits.”
Didi Krishna’s Spiritual Keynote: A Blueprint for Physicians as Healers
One of the most transformative moments of AAPICON 2026 was Didi Krishna’s address, which reframed the meaning of being a physician. “A physician is one who knows… perceives… understands,” she said.
Her central message: “You are not mere technicians — you are transformers.” She illustrated the difference between fixing and healing through the story of a village bell: “Fixing focuses on the surface; healing restores balance.”
Her three disciplines for physicians: 1. Make your mind a safe place: “Scrub your mind as you scrub your hands.” 2. Let your heart be committed to peace: “Release everything you are holding on to. Let go, let go, let go.” 3. Make your soul your anchor: “Everything outside of you is subject to change. The only stability is within you.”
She closed with a meditation and blessing: “Feel the calmness settling within you… feel everything that is disturbing you being washed away.”
Ushering in New Leadership
During the luncheon, Dr. Vijay Maurya assumed charge as the new Chairman of the AAPI Board of Trustees, along with new members elected to the Board. “As BOT, our duty is to manage funds conservatively,” he stated, underscoring principles of transparency, accountability, and long‑term sustainability.
The outgoing BOT Chair, Dr. Hetal Gor enumerated the many accomplishments of AAPI BOT under her leadership, especially focusing on the financial stability her team was able to bring in to AAPI.
The July 3rd evening had a special event welcoming the incoming President Dr. Meher Madavaram, during a Special Reception, where past and present leaders of AAPI praised her quiet demeanor and strong personality with hard work and determination. “My vision is to lead AAPI with unity, integrity, inclusion, and purpose,” she said—an articulation that captures both her personal ethos and her strategic priorities for AAPI.
Culture, Music & Celebration: Tampa Comes Alive
AAPICON 2026 blended medical excellence with cultural brilliance. The Tampa waterfront became a festival of heritage, harmony, and high‑voltage entertainment. Bhajans by Dr. Aarti Pandya, Cruise Night in Tampa Bay with DJ Yatin, Ghazals by AM, Mesmerizing musical performance by Pranysqa Mishra, a 11-year-old singer-songwriter, musical prodigy, Stand‑up comedy by Nimesh Patel, Live Music by Kumar Sanu, Bollywood glamour with Vivek Oberoi, Midnight mehfils until 2 AM, and AAPI’s Got Talent competitions were only some of the cultural and fabulous entertainment segments that stole the hearts and minds of the participants.
Dr. Ankur Aggarwal, a key sponsor of the convention, delivered the keynote address, sharing his business journey from a humble beginning to a highly successful international building development company.
Ankur Aggarwal, the visionary founder of BNW, brings a wealth of professional experience to the helm of our real estate venture. With a decade-long career as a Chartered Accountant, Ankur‘s expertise in financial management laid the groundwork for his transition into real estate in 2021.

AAPI Convention 2026: A Legacy in Motion
AAPICON 2026 was more than a convention — it was a movement. A celebration of identity. A reaffirmation of unity. A launchpad for global impact. A spiritual reminder of what it means to heal.
From Nita Ambani’s humanitarian vision to the launch of the AAPI Global Foundation, from the Women’s Forum to Didi Krishna’s sacred call, the convention marked a new era for AAPI — one defined by compassion, innovation, and limitless possibility.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Chakrabarti paid tribute to the physicians, families, sponsors, and volunteers, who helped put together a great convention:
“Behind every physician, there is always a support system that sacrifices time, provides encouragement, and shares in both the challenges and successes of our profession.
“Leading this organization has been more than a role; it has been a calling… This farewell is tender, but powerful, because it comes from a place of having given everything.”
