Air India Ranks Among the World’s Top 5 Most On-Time Global Airlines
GURUGRAM — Air India has been ranked the 4th most on-time airline in the world for June 2026 by leading aviation analytics firm Cirium. The milestone highlights the carrier’s continued focus on operational reliability, schedule integrity, and network execution.
According to Cirium’s June 2026 On-Time Performance report, Air India recorded a strong on-time arrival rate of 86.85% across 15,135 flights tracked during the month. The airline also posted an on-time departure rate of 86.23% and an exceptional completion factor of 99.7%, meaning virtually all scheduled flights operated as planned.
Navigating Network Complexity and Enhancing Resilience
The ranking reflects Air India’s sustained investments in operational resilience and improved network planning across both its domestic and international operations. As a major hub-and-spoke network carrier, Air India manages significant operational complexity, routing a vast number of connections through India’s two largest and busiest airports, Delhi and Mumbai.
Operations at these key hubs are frequently subject to congestion and air traffic control restrictions, which can create a cascading delay effect across the wider network. To counteract these challenges, Air India has introduced a series of targeted measures designed to strengthen schedule reliability:
Streamlined Aircraft Turnaround: Optimizing ground handling and maintenance check windows to get aircraft back into the air swiftly.
Real-Time Network Monitoring: Utilizing advanced tracking systems to enable faster, centralized operational decision-making.
Robust Contingency Planning: Enhancing cross-functional coordination to maintain the operational flexibility needed to respond to unforeseen disruptions such as severe weather events, airspace restrictions, airport congestion, or technical issues.
These measures minimize the impact of day-to-day delays, protect overall network stability, and ensure customers reach their destinations with greater consistency.
Ongoing Fleet Modernization and Retrofit Progress
Air India’s improving operational performance complements its multi-year transformation strategy, which encompasses comprehensive customer experience enhancements, digital innovation, and the strengthening of global connectivity. At the center of this turnaround is one of the world’s largest fleet renewal programs, featuring orders for 600 new Airbus and Boeing aircraft.
The airline has successfully inducted three new Boeing 787-9 aircraft over the last six months, with additional Boeing 787-9s and Airbus A350-1000s scheduled to join the fleet later in 2026.
In parallel, Air India is moving forward with the comprehensive retrofit of its legacy widebody fleet. Two of its 26 legacy Boeing 787-8 aircraft featuring completely refreshed interiors have already returned to active service, while three more are currently undergoing extensive upgrades in the United States. By the end of 2026, more than 50% of Air India’s widebody fleet is expected to feature completely new or upgraded cabins, significantly elevating the passenger experience across the airline’s long-haul international network.
