Star Health Unveils 32 Arogya Seva Kendras to Expand Primary Healthcare Access Across 9 States
Hyderabad: In a major move to bridge the gap in community-level healthcare, Star Health and Allied Insurance Company Limited has announced the launch of 32 Arogya Seva Kendras (ASK) across nine Indian states. This initiative, part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, aims to provide high-quality primary healthcare services to over a million people, free of cost.
Strengthening Community Care
Launched in partnership with Piramal Swasthya, the ASK clinics are designed to tackle the rising burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like hypertension and diabetes. The first center was inaugurated in Egmore, Chennai, signaling a structured rollout across key regions including Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
Comprehensive Free Services
The Arogya Seva Kendras will offer a wide array of medical services at zero cost to patients:
Medical Consultations: Access to qualified MBBS doctors.
Diagnostic Screenings: Testing for blood sugar, hemoglobin, hypertension, and oral health.
Essential Medicines: Provision of drugs for common and chronic ailments.
Preventive Care: Health counseling and adult pneumococcal vaccination support, enhanced by the expertise of Pfizer India.
Addressing the NCD Crisis
With hypertension prevalence reaching up to 40% and diabetes affecting nearly 29% of adults in targeted districts, the initiative focuses on early detection. Anand Roy, MD & CEO of Star Health, emphasized that “primary care is where healthcare equity begins,” noting that consistent screening can prevent complications before they become catastrophic.
Operational Excellence
While Star Health is funding the capital and operational expenses, Piramal Swasthya will manage the staffing, implementation, and clinical governance. Ajay Piramal, Chairman of Piramal Group, highlighted the partnership’s goal to bring trusted care closer to challenging geographies.
This long-term CSR initiative reflects a shift toward preventive healthcare, ensuring that life-saving diagnostics and treatments are accessible to those who need them most, right in their own neighborhoods.
