Ola Electric Enters Utility-Scale Energy Storage Sector via Landmark MoU with Axis Energy
Ola Electric Mobility Limited has officially entered the utility-scale energy storage sector by executing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Axis Energy. The agreement outlines a potential deployment framework for up to 20 GWh of advanced battery energy storage systems (BESS) extending through 2032.
This milestone agreement represents the inaugural large-scale collaboration for Ola Mahashakti, the company’s upcoming commercial, industrial, and utility-scale energy storage platform set for an official launch on August 15. In addition to establishing utility-scale BESS as a major new vector for corporate growth, the partnership projects an annual capacity ramp-up reaching 5 GWh starting in 2028.
Project Scope and Integration with Axis Energy Pipelines:
Axis Energy is actively constructing one of India’s most expansive pipelines centered on storage-backed renewable initiatives. The company has secured essential grid approvals for exceeding 3,750 MW of projects across Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan, complemented by an additional robust pipeline of roughly 3,500 MW.
These complex developments spanning hybrid configurations, Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE), and alternative non-solar setups depend heavily on large-scale BESS to streamline renewable integration, bolster overall grid reliability, and ensure uninterrupted, round-the-clock clean power delivery.
Market Demand and Vertical Integration Strategy:
India’s broader energy transition demands deployment at unprecedented magnitudes, with Central Electricity Authority (CEA) estimates indicating a national requirement exceeding 400 GWh by 2032. Mahashakti targets this national demand via a domestically designed and manufactured platform catering to industrial power, renewable integration, grid infrastructure, and data-center applications.
The foundational advantage of Ola’s model lies in its complete vertical integration spanning core cell technology, manufacturing execution, and system engineering. This integrated structure is engineered to provide end-users with optimized safety, enhanced performance benchmarks, fortified supply-chain security, and a reduced total cost of ownership across the system’s operational lifespan.

Highlighting the significance of the collaboration, Ravi Kumar Reddy Kataru, Chairman and Managing Director of Axis Energy Ventures, stated that as their renewable portfolio expands, battery storage is critical for delivering reliable clean energy, making this MoU a foundational step toward evaluating indigenous solutions for future growth.
