Now.. Private Missiles in the Country.. Central Government’s Decision
Another step has been taken toward self-reliance in India’s defense sector. The Central Government has planned for the entry of the private sector into missile manufacturing in India. DRDO will soon issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) for manufacturing the ‘Astra Mark-2’ missile. Through this, the technology of private companies will be utilized for missile production.
It has been decided to involve private companies in the manufacturing and development of state-of-the-art missiles. As part of this, the Ministry of Defence will soon issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) to manufacture the Astra Mark-2 missile (with a range of 180-200 km), an air-to-air missile developed by DRDO. Prominent Indian companies such as VEM Technologies (Icom), Tata Group, Adani, Mahindra, and Bharat Forge are likely to participate. The Central Government took this decision keeping in view the goal of achieving self-reliance (Atmanirbharta) in the defense sector, meeting the requirements of the country’s armed forces, and fulfilling the growing export demands from friendly nations.
