Veda Vijnana Vedika and Srivani held a treat for music and literary lovers with Bhuman’s exposition

‘Annamaiya Sankeerthanavali’, a programme of exposition and music concert on Annamacharya Sankeertanas was held on Sunday evening at Godavari Hall of Andhra Club, T-Nagar, Chennai under the collaborative patronage of Veda Vijnana Vedika and Srivani (Sri City’s Spiritual & Literary Forum). Mr. Bhuman (Sri Subrahmanyam Reddy), former Director of SVETA, TTD, Mr. Saraswati Prasad of TTD Annamacharya Project exhibited their talents in the two hour long well orchestrated programme.

Mr. K. Madhu, Secretary, Veda Vijnana Vedika welcomed the audience and said that the programme was composed in a very unique style, amalgamating talk, song & music. He thanked Dr. Ravindra Sannareddy, Founder Managing Director for cosponsoring the programme through Srivani Forum. Mr. JK Reddy, President, Veda Vijnana Vedika in his opening address introduced the chief guests and the musicians to the gathering. Dr. Ravindra Sannareddy stated that Srivani Forum was founded with inspiration from Veda Vijnana Vedika to conduct spiritual and literary activities in Sri City. Appreciating Annamayya’s distinct literary style, he stated that the Annamayya Sankeertanavali was being held for the third time.

Mr. Bhuman in his superb exposition of saint poet Tallapaka Annamacharya’s typical style of writing said that Annamayya wrote over 32,000 sankeertanas in praise of Lord Venkatewara. Annamayya opened the path for egalitarian society by preaching equality and opposing to discrimination and other social ills that were prevalent in the community at that time, Mr. Bhuman noted.

Following Mr. Bhuman’s interpretation on a particular sankeertana, Mr. Saraswati Prasad, supported by Mr. P. Panduranga Rao, Mr. Sankar and Mr. Suresh on percussion instruments, melodiously sang it. Altogether, nine popular sankeertanas were chosen, including  Brahmam okkate, Chakkani talliki, AdigO Alladigo, and Chnni sisuvu. The organisers felicitated Mr. Bhuman and others.
