“Dark Night” is an emotional thriller film made with Poorna in the lead role. G.R. Adithya has written the story and directed this film. The movie is presented by Patlolla Venkat Reddy and produced by Suresh Reddy Kovvuri under the banner of P19 Studios. These days, whenever we watch crime news, it has become common to see incidents where a husband is killed by his wife or by the wife’s lover. Even social media is filled with memes about such incidents. This film is made with a storyline that shows how dangerous married life can become if either the husband or the wife makes a wrong step in this generation, and how alert couples need to be. The film was released in theatres today (March 13).
Story:
Alex (Vidharth), a lawyer, and Hema (Poorna) get married through an arranged marriage decided by their families. However, their married life is not happy. The reason is that Alex is having an extramarital affair with Sophia (Subhashree Rayaguru), who works in his office. After learning about this, Hema leaves him and goes away. Meanwhile, Sophia starts a relationship with another man, a gym trainer. When Alex learns about this betrayal, he plans to kill Sophia. Realizing that he has been cheated, Alex returns to Hema and asks for forgiveness. Feeling remorse for his mistake, he requests her to take him back into her life. But a year earlier, Hema meets Roshan (Trigun – Adith Arun), an orphaned young man whose hands were injured in a road accident caused by her. Gradually, a closeness develops between them. Hema sees him as a good friend. However, Roshan interprets their relationship differently. Just when Alex believes that everything will settle down and that he and Hema will reunite, a tragic incident occurs. After Hema leaves her husband, what does Roshan do? Why did Roshan enter Hema’s room when her husband was present? How does this affect her married life? In the end, does Hema live a happy life? To find answers to these questions, one must watch the film.
Performances:
Poorna appears as a typical Telugu wife, portraying a beautiful homemaker in a very cute manner. She expresses emotions like disappointment, pain, and helplessness very naturally. Especially in the climax, her performance is outstanding. (The reason the climax scenes are not mentioned here is that revealing them beforehand would reduce the excitement for the audience.) Trigun delivers a peak performance and appears lively as a youngster of this generation. Vidharth performs adequately in the role of the husband. Telugu actress Subhashree Rayaguru attracts attention with her charm.
Technical Aspects:
The film begins with the famous quote by William Shakespeare: “Hell is empty, and all the devils are here.” The story of “Dark Night” directed by Adithya reflects this very idea. Although the film takes a somewhat common story involving love, disappointment, extramarital relationships, and crime, the director presents it in a slightly different manner. He attempts to blend several elements of the story in a unique style. Particularly, narrating the story from Hema’s point of view is interesting.Hema’s sudden attraction toward Roshan also seems somewhat justified. The director introduces an unexpected twist involving certain supernatural elements that turn the story in a new direction and surprise the audience.Mysskin, who has proved himself not only as a top director but also as a music director, has provided good songs for the film. They enhance the emotional depth of the movie. The influence of Ilayaraja is clearly visible in the music. From the beginning of the film until the climax, the background score stands out as a highlight.Karthik Muthu Kumar’s cinematography is good, especially the night scenes which are captured beautifully. The editing is decent. The producer has maintained good production values.
Analysis:
With an interesting storyline, the way the story is narrated, along with emotional and suspenseful elements, “Dark Night” gives the audience an emotional thrill and keeps them engaged with the characters for nearly two hours.Especially the themes related to today’s youth stand out and reflect their experiences. These days, many stories revolve around conflicts between husband and wife, divorces, and betrayal. However, this film shows how husband and wife should understand each other and how careful they need to be in a relationship.
“Husbands! If you want to stay safe, you should definitely show this film to your wives.” With such a message, the movie comes across as a good film. It can truly be called a surprise package and a movie that couples can watch together.
