Reliance and Meta Partner to Build Massive AI Data Center in Gujarat
MUMBAI: In a move set to redefine India’s position in the global technology landscape, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has announced a landmark partnership with Meta Platforms, Inc. to develop a massive, AI-enabled data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
The facility will boast an initial capacity of 168 MW, scheduled for delivery within the next two years, with built-in provisions to scale up operations in the future.
This project marks Meta’s very first built-to-suit data center capacity in India. Meta will lease the capacity to support its core global infrastructure and skyrocketing AI computing needs. The collaboration deepens a long-standing strategic relationship between the two tech giants that already spans connectivity, commerce, and digital innovation.
A Turnkey Solution for Hyperscale AI:
Under the terms of the agreement, Reliance will act as a single-window solutions provider for the hyperscale project. RIL will deliver comprehensive, end-to-end services across the data center’s entire lifecycle, including:
- Bespoke architectural design and rapid construction.
- Ongoing utility management and dedicated network connectivity.
- Sourcing and management of green energy.
- Fully managed, round-the-clock operational services.
Strategic Location and Green Engineering:
The chosen site in Jamnagar, Gujarat, offers unparalleled geographical and logistical advantages for large-scale data operations. The facility will leverage close proximity to India’s western submarine cable landing stations and tap directly into Jio’s extensive, high-speed fiber network.
In line with global sustainability goals, the data center will be entirely powered by renewable energy. Furthermore, it will utilize an innovative cooling system fed by desalinated seawater, highlighting both RIL and Meta’s commitment to eco-friendly industrial practices.
This mega-project aligns closely with the Government of India’s policy framework, which designates data centers as strategic national infrastructure to attract high-tech global investments.
Leadership Perspectives:
“This partnership with Meta marks a transformative moment for India’s digital infrastructure,” said Shri Mukesh D. Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited. “Building India’s first built-to-suit data centre for a global technology leader of Meta’s scale demonstrates India’s readiness to be at the forefront of the global AI revolution. Jamnagar will become a landmark destination for hyperscale AI computing.”
Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO of Meta, echoed the enthusiasm: “We’re proud to be working with Reliance to build our first AI-enabled data center in India. This world-class facility in Jamnagar will help us scale our AI infrastructure globally while deepening our long-term investment in India’s economy.”
